Some Courses of Study have groups of sessions called Focused Education Roadmaps. The purpose of Focused Education Roadmaps is to provide you with a learning path to master a particular skill or subject. The sessions in a Roadmap are intended to be taken in the order they are listed and without lapse, in order to achieve the stated educational goal.
ROADMAP: Backup and Recovery
Educational Goals: Provide education regarding the technologies considerations for backup and recovery of computer systems to the various forms of backup media so that the system may be recovered in case of data loss disasters or need to return to previous versions of data and applications.
Business Objectives: Allow executives to plan the protection of their systems for loss of data and enable recovery.

ROADMAP: Beginner's Guide to RPG
Educational Goals: RPG is used in the vast majority of programs running on IBM i. These sessions will provide the beginning programmer with a comprehensive overview of the ILE RPG (RPG IV) language and provide resources for the programmer to improve his proficency in ILE RPG.
Business Objectives: On completion, the attendee will be able to maintain existing ILE RPG (RPG IV) programs and develop basic programs from scratch.

ROADMAP: Data Warehousing
Education Goal: IBM i for Data Warehousing provides best in class performance. This FER provides the student with a strong foundation in the business concepts, tools and technology of Business Intelligence (BI), Data Warehousing and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) including how to reduce project risk, apply widely accepted data warehousing methodology, assess whether or not data mining is right for their organization, and plan a CRM project.
Business Objective: On completion, the attendee will be able to use common data warehousing and CRM terminology correctly, evaluate alternative BI/CRM solutions and database architectures, and help their organization avoid making the most common mistakes associated with BI/CRM.

Educational Goals: The student will: 1) be able to explain the IBM i Single Sign-on strategy and how it differs from other industry approachs to this problem 2) learn the steps necessary to configure single sign-on for IBM i 3) learn how to build single sign-on into their own programs 4) gain hands-on experience in configuring single sign-on and how to build single sign-on into user programs.
Business Objectives: The IBM i approach to single sign-on is low cost, low administration, and reduced help desk costs. The objective for this Roadmap is for the student to learn everything necessary to return to work and begin implementing single sign-on in their shops.

ROADMAP: Getting Started with TCP/IP
Educational Goal: This focused education will introduce the basic information you will need to design and work with TCP/IP connected hardware. You will learn how IP addresses are used, and the different technologies to help administer and speed information from one piece of hardware to another anywhere within your network, as well as to anywhere in the world. You will also get a chance to actually use this technology in a lab to help reinforce what you have learned.
Business Objective: TCP/IP has become the backbone protocol of the networking industry. Almost all new equipment and software is built to take advantage of this technology. A basic understanding of this protocol is essential in today's interconnected business environment.

ROADMAP: Open Community Application Support
Educational Goals: This Roadmap explores the Web development and deployment stack enabled through the use of PHP and MySQL in i5/OS. The installation of PHP and MySQL in i5/OS provides the foundation to deploy a myriad of existing open source applications and run them unchanged in i5/OS further extending the reach of i5/OS within the enterprise. At the completion of this Roadmap the attendee should have a basic understanding of the PHP scripting language as well as the MySQL open source database engine as well as an understanding of open source applications that are available and how these applications can be deployed in i5/OS.
Business Objectives: Understand the open source Web deployment stack that is enabled in i5/OS as a result of PHP and MySQL support and how that stack can be used to deploy open source applications in the i5/OS environment.

Business Objectives: The i5/OS Integrated File System (IFS) is a powerful repository for many different types of data -- this ranges from database information to PC data to UNIX. This focused education roadmap will give the attendee a good understanding of the structure of the IFS, and information that can be stored there, but also how to secure the data making only selected parts of it available to selected users.

ROADMAP: Using System i Access for Web to Work With i5/OS Resources
Educational Goal: Attendees will learn how to use, manage, and customize access to their i5/OS resources via the browser-based System i Access for Web product. Attendees will learn about features such as 5250 emulation for working with i5/OS screens and host applications, how to work with System i printers and printer output, access the i5/OS database and IFS, how to run commands, work with jobs, convert output to PDF and ability to email results -- all within the Access for Web product. They will also learn how to control access to i5/OS resources through an easy point-and-click interface, and also learn how they can create multiple different web views of information end users can access. Then the attendee can complete this education by coming to an OPEN LAB and trying out any or all of the functions available.
Business Objectives: Businesses are rapidly adopting browser-based solutions for working with i5/OS resources as it provides a more flexible, easy-to-use, and manageable alternative than previously available solutions. Attendees following this focused education roadmap will expand their knowledge of the many options provided by System i Access for Web. They will discover not only the many capabilities available in this product, but will learn how to easily control end user access to i5/OS resources and how to build their own specialized company front page using System i Access for Web.

ROADMAP: Using System i Access for Windows to Work With i5/OS Resources
Educational Goal: The attendee will be given an overview of capabilities provided by System i Access and i5/OS, then be shown how to set up the AS/400 NetServer for file and print serving, how to use Data Transfer and set up predefined Data Transfer requests, how to configure 5250 emulation sessions, and how to use some of the base System i Navigator functions. This education will provide the attendee with a good working knowledge of some of the functions provided and how to use them. The hands-on lab (410160) has a 'System i Access Express - The Basics' section that enables attendees to try out these System i Access functions.
Business Objectives: The System i Access for Windows product offers Windows operating system users a broad range of functions for working with i5/OS resources. This Roadmap will offer the attendee to learn how to work with the i5/OS database, file system, printers, etc. It will also identify many practical ways an System i administrator can control the functions end users can work with and how to manage their network of PC users.
Prerequisite: Basic understanding of TCP/IP, IBM i capabilities, Microsoft Windows capabilities.

ROADMAP: i5/OS TCP/IP Programming and Networking
Educational Goals: The attendee will understand the basic elements that an i5/OS user, programmer, system operator, or administrator needs as a foundation for further education. This foundation will make it easier for i5/OS programmers to grasp the materials in other courses and i5/OS documentation.
Business Objectives:: Attendees will be introduced to i5/OS basic TCP/IP implementation used for either intra-company or inter-company communications. Understanding these concepts will enable the attendee to become productive using i5/OS and TCP/IP quickly, and to communicate more effectively with experienced users.
Prerequisites: A basic understanding of the TCP/IP protocol and i5/OS.
